GETTING STARTED top
Not sure how to get started? Learn all the basics by reading the introdutory manual. It takes you through the setup and customization processes and offers advice on how to accomplish things people commonly want, such as SEO or multiple languages. Also see the knowledge base, ask around on the forum (be sure to do a search of previous posts as well) or fill out the e-mail support form.
NEW INSTALL (not uprade) top
To install, simply download autosetup.php and upload it to your site. Visit it in your web browser and follow its instructions.
If your server doesn't meet the requirements but you want to try anyway with a manual install, follow this procedure. Download and extract the .tar.gz (as you've presumably done to get to reading this). Upload these contents to the install directory of your choice on the server. Visit setup.php in your web browser. It will prompt you for the database and configuration details, and you're done.
If your server also fails the requirement of having either suPHP or the ftp extension, you'll have to do some manual chmoding. Setup.php should list the major chmod necessities, but you may find it easier to just bulk-chmod everything beneath the install directory (including the install directory) to 777.
READ PRIOR TO UPGRADING top
NOTE REGARDING UPGRADES FROM VERY OLD VERSIONS: If you're upgrading from an exceptionally old version, you may run into some headaches as upgrades from versions that old may not have been tested in a while. Be sure to make a backup of both the files and the database before you proceed.
TO UPGRADE FROM 5.1.x: top
- Automatic Method (recommended): Click the admin panel's autoupgrade button.
- Manual Method (for extreme circumstances only): Upload to overwrite all files except your /templates/ and /integration/ directories. Upload to overwrite /templates/admin/. Login as an administrator and run upgrade.php, by going to http://yourinstallpath/upgrade.php in your web browser.
TO UPGRADE FROM 5.0.x: top
- Automatic Method (recommended): If you're on the latest 5.0 release, the front page of your admin panel has a button you can click to upgrade to the new series. If you're not on the latest 5.0 release, click to upgrade to that first.
- Manual Method (for extreme circumstances only): Upload to overwrite all files except your /templates/ and /integration/ directories. Upload to overwrite /templates/admin/, and overwrite your template set(s) with default or multilingual as appropriate. Login as an administrator and run upgrade.php, by going to http://yourinstallpath/upgrade.php in your web browser.
TO UPGRADE FROM 4.1.x: top
- Automatic Method (recommended): First, click the admin panel's autoupgrade button to go to the 5.0 series. Then click it again to go to 5.1.
- Manual Method (for extreme circumstances only): Upload to overwrite all files except your /templates/ and /integration/ directories. Upload to overwrite /templates/admin/, and overwrite your template set(s) with default or multilingual as appropriate. Login as an administrator and run upgrade.php, by going to http://yourinstallpath/upgrade.php in your web browser.
In case of emergency, a manual procedure for 4.1 or 5.0: Upload to overwrite all files except your /templates/ directory. Upload to overwrite /templates/admin/. Login as an administrator and run upgrade.php, by going to http://yourinstallpath/upgrade.php in your web browser. Upgrade.php will inform you of any needed template changes.
TO UPGRADE FROM 4.0.X AND EARLIER: top
- Make sure you've input your FTP info in your admin panel (Settings -> System) if your server and version support it.
- Upload to overwrite all files except your /integration/ and /templates/styles/ directories.
- Delete whichever template set directory (/templates/default/ or /templates/multilingual/) isn't applicable for you.
- Delete your old /admin/ and /images/ subdirectories of your template set, they no longer apply.
- Overwrite your language file in /languages/ with languages/setup/fullenglish.lng (for multilingual) or languages/setup/englishonly.lng (for english-only).
- Login as an administrator and run upgrade.php, by going to http://yourinstallpath/upgrade.php in your web browser.
- Regenerate everything at Admin -> Maintenance -> Regenerate.
- Update usergroup permissions and switches as desired.
UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS top
If you wish to remove the software, you can uninstall it quickly by visiting admin/uninstall.php in your web browser while logged in as administrator.
LICENSE top
The file license.txt contains the terms under which you can copy the files involved in this software. The file filelicenses.txt notes the terms of specific files which are exceptions to the license.txt generality.
